Hello and welcome,

Embarking on this journey, the inevitable task of sharing a bit about myself loomed large. I was tempted to craft a narrative in the third person, a nod perhaps to a sense of detachment or authority. Yet, this space – Philosophical.Chat – is an extension of my personal quest, a venture far removed from the formal halls of academia. I spend my days lecturing at a leading UK STEM University Technical College but here, I am just Steff, an enthusiast delving into the realms of thought and discussion that fascinate me.

The Genesis of a Passion Project

Midlife brings with it a spectrum of quests for meaning: some find solace in the strings of an electric guitar, the thrill of motorsport, or the freedom of the skies. Others seek rhythm in dance or the solace of nature. As a survivor of cancer, a life changing experience, my interests and thirst for knowledge became all consuming. So, my quest? To carve out a corner in the digital expanse where conversation and contemplation reign supreme. Philosophical.Chat is not just a blog or a podcast; it’s a reflection of an evolutionary process – my own.

Accepting my own limits

I step into this arena fully aware of the myriad perspectives that await. From esteemed philosophers and spirited debaters to those who just want to discover something fascinating, this platform is poised to welcome people from all backgrounds and at every many different stages of their unique journeys through. I do not profess to be an expert! My challenge is to learn while building this platform of discovery and sharing.

Yet, it’s a challenge I embrace. Philosophical.Chat aims to be a crucible for ideas, where dialogue transcends discord, fostering a community of thoughtful engagement.

In my role as an educator, the mantle of neutrality is one I bear with care, mindful of the influence it carries. Philosophical.Chat, however, serves as a conduit for exploration and exchange, not indoctrination. Here, I encourage you, the reader, the listener, to forge your own path through the dialogues we embark upon.

Who is Steff Lewis?

Far from the philosopher’s stone, my journey has meandered through various vocations – from the cockpit of commercial aviation to the drafting tables of architectural technology. Yet, the title of philosopher remains an aspirational one, a horizon ever distant. What I bring to this forum is not a pedigree in philosophical doctrine but a kaleidoscope of experiences and an insatiable curiosity.

In this digital age, where information is omnipresent, the value lies not in accumulation but in application – in understanding the context, engaging with content critically, and weaving our experiences into a tapestry of knowledge.

Beyond the Bio

Crafting a narrative polished to a sheen might lend a semblance of authority. Yet, authenticity speaks louder than any crafted persona. Philosophical.Chat is an invitation – to explore, to question, to converse. Alongside my co-producer and partner, Rose, we aim to foster a space where ideas can flourish free from the shadows of intimidation and prejudice. And let’s not forget Sophi, our resident philosophical owlbot.
